Troops Strike Back: Wanted Terrorists Killed in Plateau Clearance Operation
Jos Afrik24 – Troops of “Operation Enduring Peace” have neutralized several terrorists, including high-profile individuals on the military’s wanted list—and intercepted a cache of locally fabricated weapons during a series of decisive operations across Plateau State.
The military breakthroughs occurred during deliberate offensive operations conducted between late June and early July 2026.
The operations commenced in the early hours of Friday, June 26, 2026, when troops of Sector 6 targeted a terrorist enclave at the Gero Highground in the Jos South Local Government Area (LGA) following reports of nefarious activities.
Despite encountering heavy gunfire from terrorists who used livestock as shields, the troops held their ground and called for reinforcements.
The arriving backup forced the terrorists to retreat, prompting an aggressive pursuit during which several insurgents were neutralized and their enclaves dismantled.
However, in a statement issued by Capt. Chinonso Oteh, Spokesperson for the Operation Enduring Peace, he emphasized that the ongoing operations are part of a renewed and deliberate effort to completely deny criminal elements freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area and restore lasting peace to the state.
According to him: “At around 10:00 am, troops of Sector 5 stationed at a checkpoint in Maijanki intercepted a motorcycle traveling from the Kuba District of Bokkos LGA toward Barkin Ladi.
“Upon spotting the military checkpoint, two passengers on the motorcycle abandoned a bag and fled into the surrounding bush. Troops recovered the bag, which contained three locally fabricated rifles, and arrested the motorcycle rider”, Oteh said.
The tasks force Spokesman said during preliminary interrogation, the rider claimed he had merely picked up the fleeing individuals and was unaware of their destination or the contents of their luggage.
Oteh who revealed more successes by the military informed that on Tuesday June 30, 2026, troops acted on intelligence regarding a mass gathering of terrorists in the Rafin Bauna and Gero mountain ranges and neutralized five terrorists, forcing the rest of the group to abandon their planned mission and flee.
“Local community members and subsequent battle assessments confirmed that some of the neutralized individuals were notorious figures on the Command’s wanted list, responsible for orchestrating numerous deadly attacks across the Jos South and Bassa LGAs”, he said.
He continued: “In a separate incident on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at approximately 11:00 pm, alert sentry troops deployed at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos South LGA, repelled another attack.
“Suspected terrorists had breached the institution’s perimeter through a low fence under the cover of darkness and opened fire.
“Troops swiftly returned fire, neutralizing one attacker while the others fled. The body of the deceased insurgent has been handed over to the police, and recovered arms and ammunition remain in military custody as troops dominate the area with aggressive patrols”, the statement reads.
