Without Ronaldo Portugal plays better, Says Twellman

USA Afrik24 – Former USA and New England Revolution forward Taylor Twellman has claimed that Portugal is at their best without Cristiano Ronaldo.

This bold statement comes just weeks before the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where Ronaldo is preparing for a historic appearance.

The Al-Nassr forward will be playing in his sixth World Cup, with only Argentina captain Lionel Messi in contention to match the fear this summer.

Speaking to ESPN, Twellman said, “For Portugal, and I am going to make a bold statement here, this is the best team Ronaldo has ever had around him at a World Cup.

“I actually think Portugal is at their best if he doesn’t play.”

Portugal is in Group K at the World Cup and will face DR Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia.

Roberto Martinez’s side will play friendly games against Chile and Nigeria, respectively, before the start of the tournament in June.
